John Agrella born in Southampton England, he is just an average person who loves to get outside and enjoy the elements. He's getting older now, but still young enough to get gold. He spends most of his time painting art of the gold rush days.

The Artist lived in Hawaii, on Oahu and Maui where as a single parent he raised his daughter.  John would like to live in the Sierras some day, and be a part of the gold rush history.

John has created a colour painting that shows what life may have looked like in the gold rush days. In 1849 most images were black and white although some water colour paintings were created.

Gold Rush Art
In Colour

There are paintings of the gold rush days out there, they are in museums in California,  New York and many other museums and galleries. Lithos of originals are rare but can be found, some are very pricy, some are reasonable. The paintings of the gold rush period were not painted in 1849 but later, around 1858. There may be an oil painting out there painted in 1849, if there is I would love to own a copy.

The thrill of finding a nugget of gold.
Turning over a rock.
Metal detecting.
Getting in a river with a wet suit on.
The wind, dust in 90 degree plus heat.
Dry washing in the desert, just sitting on some bedrock picking out a crevas.
By the side of a river, panning or sluicing.
Walking in the forest.
Fishing for trout.
Most of all, my art

working on the computer has been very rewarding to me.
To have a tool to create a gallery for others to see my art work.
Digital photography, images of my art to put in a virtual gallery.
