A young Prospector accepts the offer to pan.  Roy's family takes in the stranger who was eager to find some gold.  A boy who lost his family on the way to the gold fields.  Campfire cooking! Roy's mother making a pot of venison stew that you can smell for miles. Old prospector's and their donkeys come from Coarse Gold & Mariposa Word of a strike near El Portal, down the Merced River to Drunken Gulch.  A large vein of quartz streams through the bedrock and river bank.  Roy's dad hammers and picks away at the vein saturated with chunks of Placer gold. Roy, he sold some gold and bought supplies and a new rocker box from Chinese carpenter at China Camp.
Roy hires a couple of Chinese boys to help get the gold out of there. Happy to help, they will get a share of the gold.  More Prospectors show up in the area, Roy's family hurries to get the gold out before too many people move in on their claim.  Aware of the potential danger, they bury the gold behind their tents knowing that time is running out. The panner gazing into his pan with nuggets and black sand. The thrill of the find the luck of the draw, the young prospector who lost his family couldn't have got more lucky when Roy, the miner with the heart of gold and his family took him in.  They all lived together here until the good gold was gone.  Roy stayed in California, he loved the Merced River area and the great Ahwahnee Valley.  The young Prospector lived in San Francisco and started a newspaper with his fortune. Roy's family returned back home.

Everyone is a straneger until you get to know them!
